More than 700 people were served during the annual SELCAS pancake and sausage breakfast fundraiser in Fairbury Saturday morning.
“People are very supportive in the area,” notes Southeast Livingston County Ambulance Service EMS coordinator Jim Hargitt.
When Fairbury News visited with Hargitt around 10 a.m. Saturday, the breakfast already served around 500 people. The event continued for a few more hours after that.
The main fundraiser of the year is always held Easter weekend. The first one worked out well so SELCAS has continued it at the same time each year.
“It helps us with our finances during the year,” added Hargitt.
Times may be tough due to operational expenses, but the communities SELCAS serves continue to be supportive.
“We are usually pretty close to breakeven from all sources by the time we get done with the year and that’s all we are asking for.”
SELCAS now has first response vehicles in Chenoa and Chatsworth and also has contracts with Cropsey and Saunemin. That is about as far as the service spreads and Hargitt feels it works out well.
