Two requests for street closures were approved by the Fairbury City Council during this week’s regular meeting.

The first was from Dominy Library for FFA Day May 8 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The second was from the VFW to allow Woody & Bubba’s BBQ food truck to park outside of their building on Locust Street May 16 from 4:30 to 8 p.m.

In other business, the council approved spending funds to line the Stafford Center gym floor. Once the work is done, a basketball or pickleball court will be available for residents to use during winter months. A request was approved to purchase six new pagers and chargers for the Fire Department. Cell phones and pagers are used to notify personnel of a fire.

City Superintendent Brett Ashburn reported the city staff has been busy planning for the Easter Egg hunt on April 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the screened-in pavilion at North Park. Donuts will be provided by Dave’s with locally-sponsored “golden eggs” available.

The city approved a bid from Elite Landscaping for maintaining flower boxes along Locust Street. Gomez Outdoor Solutions also submitted a bid. The 2025-2026 Pay Ordinance was approved, which includes contracts for the City Superintendent and Police Chief.

During public comment at Wednesday’s council meeting, a resident inquired why the hands were missing on one of the faces of the Old City Hall clock. Street Superintendent Lonnie Rhoads said city crews are in the process of making repairs to the 1913 clock.
