Two outgoing members of the Prairie Central Board of Education were recognized for their service during last Thursday’s regular meeting.

Mark Slagel has served on the board for 14 years with Lori Schahrer serving four years. Both were presented with plaques.

“Prairie Central greatly appreciates their time, devotion and service,” said Superintendent Paula Crane.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, Caren Appel and Chastity Pick both expressed their appreciation of the outgoing members.

“I truly appreciate everything you have done,” Appel said, before presenting a note to each of them.

Pick has gained an appreciation for the job of board member by seeing them face difficult tasks.

“All of you value your position as caretakers of our school district far more than I ever realized. There’s no way to accurately measure the influence you’ve had on our district.”

Slagel thanked many, including staff members, during his time as board president.

“They’ve been very supportive through all of this, especially COVID.”

Slagel feels we have the best community in the world and said all of his own kids have done well after attending school at Prairie Central.

“I’ve had the best board members you could find anywhere,” added Slagel.

New board members Ben Stoller and Brad Duncan will be formally seated during an upcoming special meeting.
