Pig-Out brings back memories

After all these years, a Fairbury staple continues to make service a priority.

“It’s because of loyal customers we can do what we do,” Mark Steffen of Dave’s Supermarket told Fairbury News.

The store held its annual customer appreciation “Pig-Out” Tuesday which saw a large crowd thanks to cooler weather. The annual event along Third Street in front of the store includes food, live music and vendors in the parking lot.

“This is a small way of saying thank you,” said Steffen.

Dave’s is marking its 73rd anniversary this year. The store was founded in 1950 by Dave and Emma Lou Steffen and quickly became a true family business as all of the Steffen children

became actively involved.

Justin Steffen said the “Pig-Out” and store are both group efforts. He thanks the Dave’s team and customers. Brian Steffen has plenty of great memories at the outdoor event over the years.

“My kids have grown up here and today, two grandkids are coming from Normal,” said Brian.
