A Fairbury police officer was arrested by Illinois State Police this week for alleged criminal sexual assault.

ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5 officials arrested Carter Meister, 23, of Forrest on four counts of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony. ISP was notified of an allegation on Monday with an arrest warrant issued Thursday for Meister. Agents gathered evidence regarding the allegations. Meister was transported to the Livingston County Jail.

“Meister has been relieved of his police duties and equipment and the investigation by ISP DCI is ongoing. No additional information will be released at this time,” said a news released provided by ISP.

Fairbury Police issued a news release Friday that said as soon as they were notified of the investigation, the officer was removed from active duty.

“At this time, the criminal investigation is being handled by Illinois State Police. Any inquiries about the investigation should be directed to ISP,” said the Fairbury Police release.

Charges filed in Livingston County Court Friday include four counts of criminal sexual assault and four counts of criminal sexual abuse. A detention hearing is set for Oct. 10.
