Obituary: Yoder




Evelyn M. Yoder, 97, of Fairbury, passed away at 9:30 am, Friday, September 15, 2023 at her residence in Fairbury.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Monday, September 25, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Fairbury with Pastor Daryl Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.


Visitation will be from 2 to 5 pm, Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Memorials may be directed to SELCAS or Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.


Evelyn was born August 31, 1926 in Fairbury the daughter of Francis and Martha (Sutter) Kaisner. She married Gene L. Yoder on July 4, 1964 in Fairbury. He passed away December 1, 1994.


Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn (Jay) Huber of Elgin, IL; and one sister, Marlene Kiger of Napoleon, OH.She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Willis, Earl, Glenn and Dennis Kaisner and one sister, Ethel Mae Bryeans.


Mrs. Yoder was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church of Fairbury where she served in the Martha Circle, Maranatha Society and Kindred Spirits. She led the senior’s group and the ladies’ sewing group. Longer ago she taught children’s Sunday School and helped cleaned the church. She volunteered for many years at Fairview Haven Retirement Community in Fairbury; receiving the Shining Star Award in 2006. She was named Citizen of the Year in 2002. Back in the day, she was salesperson of the week at Zimmerman’s Hardware. Her hobbies included reading and sewing. She enjoyed embroidering and taking bus trips.


She had a servant’s heart and lived life to the fullest until the very end.
