Michael Howard Ramsey, 73, passed away at 8:05 am, on Friday, January 17, 2025 at his residence in Fairbury.
Mr. Ramsey was born August 24, 1951 in Pontiac; a son to Howard and Lillian (Cooper)Ramsey. He married Diana Wells on August 26, 1972 in Pontiac. His wife, Diana survives in Fairbury. His parents, three sisters, Diane Howard, Marolyn Pliskey, Ann Crouch; and father in-law, James Wells preceded him in death.
Mike is also survived by his son, Michael H. Ramsey Jr. of Fairbury; his daughter, Tammy Ramsey of Bloomington; his siblings, Cindy Ramsey of Pontiac; Daniel (Cindy) Ramsey of Pontiac; Lorraine Winchester of Hot Springs, CA; five adored grandchildren, Zacery and Nicolas Brown, Devon, Brendon and Addison Ramsey; 5 great grandchildren and mother in-law, JoAnn Wells of Fairbury.
Per Mike’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with private family services to be held at a later date. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions left in Michael’s name may be directed to the Livingston County Humane Society, Pontiac.
Though Mike often joked that he “served thirty years,” he in reality proudly retired after working thirty years for the Illinois Department of Corrections in Pontiac in the maintenance department where he was very well liked and respected by all who knew him. He was a member of the I.O.O.F Lodge in Fairbury and supported the Livingston County Humane Society.
Mike lived an uncomplicated life, enjoyed woodworking, fishing and camping with family and friends, and taking care of his home and yard. Above all else, he was a true family man and immensely enjoyed spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Anytime he held one of the babies in his lap, they always easily fell fast asleep, a true testament to his calming, genuine nature.
He was very well loved by his friends and family, all of whom feel this deep loss. He was known for his jovial, fun loving, charitable nature and is often described as “such a good guy” by anyone who knew him.
