Neighbors help rescue pigs

Thanks to help from the community, most of the pigs from a burning building on the Blunier farm near Forrest were saved Tuesday evening.

Though many volunteers helped move the animals to a safe location, the hog barn was a total loss and the cause of the fire was unknown as of Wednesday afternoon. The call came in after 6 p.m. and firefighters were on the scene for over four hours at 9141 North 2500 East.

Responding fire departments included Forrest-Strawn-Wing, Fairbury, Chatsworth, Pontiac, Saunemin, Cullom, Emington-Campus, Piper City, Sibley, Cropsey and Odell. Chenoa helped man the local station. SELCAS ambulance personnel also responded to the scene.

In addition to providing help moving the pigs, volunteers also donated food for those at the scene.
