Miller wins Master Showmanship

Ivan Miller of Cropsey, a member of the Fairbury Prairie Farmers 4-H Club, was all smiles Saturday morning after winning Master Showmanship at the Livingston County Ag Fair.

“It feels good,” Miller told Fairbury News. “I’ve been working at it for a few years now and I’ve been in the top end of things. Then, in my final year of 4-H, I finally got a win.”

For the competition, every species winner shows different types of animals. This is no small feat, but Miller was up for the challenge.

“It was a lot of work to try and learn different species as well as adapt to the different styles for that individual animal but it’s fun to get involved with the other kids,” notes Miller.

Miller had a great week showing his pigs and sheep at the fair with a few champions and reserves. The fact that this is his last year in 4-H hasn’t really sunk in yet.

“I’m sure after State Fair, stuff will be a little sad and emotional but it’s been a great time and I’ve learned a lot of great life lessons through 4-H.”

The sophomore at Joliet Junior College plans to transfer to Oklahoma State, focusing on animal science, genetics and nutrition. Miller has plenty of great memories at the Livingston County Fair and State Fair, especially the Saturday morning Master Showmanship competition.
