Prairie Central lost to Effingham 27-14 in a quarterfinal IHSA playoff game at Fairbury Saturday afternoon.
Nathan Shackelford from EHS had an 18-yard pass to Jett Gillum to put the visitors up 7-0 in the first. PC’s Kaden King then had a 24-yard run in the second to put the Hawks up. That was followed by King’s 51-yard pass to Corbin Moser. EHS’s Logan Brown had a five-yard run at the end of the first half to tie the game.
Shackelford had a 23-yard pass for EHS in the third quarter to Tristin Duncan putting them ahead 20-14. A fourth-quarter EHS run from Logan Brown put EHS up 27-14.
Big defensive stats for PC included Cooper Palmore with 11 solo tackles and three assists, Brandon Hoselton with eight solo tackles and one assist and Caeden Young with seven solo tackles and two assists.
King led the passing for PC while it was Shackelford for EHS. PC rushing leaders were King, Connor Casner, Moser and Dailen Loveless. Moser led the receiving for the Hawks. PC’s Clare Strong had three kickoffs for 100 yards and an average of 33.3. King, Austin Swiech and Jacob Niffen had kickoff returns for PC. King had two punts while Swiech had a fumble recovery.
Effingham had a possession time of 29:35 to PC’s 18:25.
