Five days of fair fun planned

Judging of exhibits and plenty of family entertainment are just some of what is planned this week during the 148th annual Fairbury Fair which runs Wednesday through Sunday (Aug. 14-18).


Local bands will be featured opening night on Wednesday during the “We Are One” event at 6:30 in the grandstand.


“We are doing a Christian music concert,” explains one of the Fairbury Fair directors, Gerry Brandt. “It will be free.”


Brandt serves as chairman of the volunteer committee which lines up gate workers during the fair.


Wednesday also includes livestock judging and floral hall exhibits and a DJ in the beer garden from 9 to 11 p.m.


Thursday features the kids day events from 1 to 5 p.m. with a Pinewood Derby at 5:30, golf cart rodeo at 6:30 and a DJ from 8 to 11 p.m. in the beer garden.


Friday is Military Day with the Euchre Tournament getting underway at 1 p.m. and the country concert with Sara Evans featuring Kaylyn Pace starts at 7 p.m. The Stone Cold Cowboys perform in the beer garden from 9:30 p.m. to midnight.


Saturday is the 5K Run and 2 Mile Walk starting at 8 a.m. and the KCBS BBQ Cookoff beginning at 9 a.m. The talent show is at 10:30 a.m., kids baggo tournament at 1 p.m., golf cart scavenger hunt at 2 p.m., stock car racing at 5:15 and the band 80’s Bush from 9:30 to midnight.


Sunday includes the community worship service at 10 a.m., antique farm equipment display from 12 to 3, chili cookoff from 12 to 5, baggo tournament starting at 1, demolition derby at 2 p.m. and the closing events at 5:30.


Conner Family Amusements is providing the rides once again with numerous wristband specials throughout the fair. Wednesday and Thursday will feature a free gate all day while Friday includes a $10 gate starting at 3 p.m., Saturday is the $10 gate beginning at 10 a.m. and Sunday’s $10 gate starts at 10 a.m.
