Farmers get the itch

A farmer works ground in a field on the southwest side of Fairbury Thursday along Clay Street.

A week of dry weather and pleasant temperatures has led some area farmers to venture out to the field.

Spring fieldwork for 2020 is officially underway near Fairbury as a couple of tractors were spotted west of town working ground Thursday afternoon and some sprayers were observed to the south. Rumor has it one farmer was even attempting to plant soybeans during this dry spell.

Fields in this part of the county are drier than those to the north and west as we missed the big rains last weekend. More rain is in the forecast for Saturday and again early next week although large amounts were not expected.
