The Prairie Central Board of Education has adopted a resolution to renew an e-learning program in lieu of the district’s scheduled emergency days.
Information was presented during a hearing held prior to the regular June board meeting last week. This allows students to have school at home on snow days as it is required to be renewed every three years.
“This is a resolution you’d adopt during your regular meeting as you so choose,” explained PC Superintendent Paula Crane.
During her superintendent report, Crane reported the football lighting company has not been here yet. The alignment of lights on the field needs to be checked and the company will re-aim the lights to see if specifications have been met. Gym floor work is paused while decisions are made on how to bring the floor up to the proper elevation. Color samples will soon be reviewed and elevations will be recorded with a more detailed plan put into place.
Work on the ag and I.T. addition over the past month has included preparing utilities and working on footings and phone issues. The board seemed to like the idea of doing a ribbon cutting open house event once it is completed rather than a groundbreaking ceremony.
Crane revealed the district will receive over $200,000 in grant money through a Vacancy Grant Pilot Program.
“The program aims at hiring then supporting and retaining teachers in the district,” explained Crane.
Changes were approved for the ESP Job Descriptions and Evaluation Tool which must be reviewed, according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Only small changes were suggested, including accepting a high school diploma or the equivalent as a qualification and lowering the age to be a paraprofessional per new legislation.
A request was granted for the FFA livestock judging team to attend an overnight trip to West Springfield, MA in September. The team was a top four judging team in the state and earned the invitation. They will compete in the National Livestock Judging Contest.
Policy updates were approved which were presented at the May meeting. No additional questions were asked.
Board members approved the consent agenda which included the activity fund report, bills, CSFT reports, cafeteria report, financial reports, investment schedule and treasurer’s report.
