Council receives streets update

During Wednesday’s regular meeting of the Fairbury City Council, Street Superintendent Lonnie Rhoads reported stop signs were recently installed at Sixth and Elm Streets.

He also said a large piece of sidewalk in front of the Kinate Law Firm on Locust Street had sunk over time, and rainwater was going into the building instead of into the street.

Superintendent Rhoads noted this piece of sidewalk had recently been raised successfully, and some minor concrete grinding work will be finished soon.

Brett Ashburn, City Superintendent, reported that the annual audit of the city's finances will soon be conducted and that the results will be presented to the City Council.

The City Council voted to approve the VFW's request to allow Woody & Bubba's food truck to park on Locust Street from 5 to 8 p.m. on October 25th, 2024.

It was learned the fire station building needs electrical work, including new exterior lights, new interior occupancy sensors, and the installation of an exterior outlet. RTJ Electric provided one quote for the work, but the council requested that additional quotes be received before they could approve the work.
