Two more wins from over the weekend put the Hawk boys basketball team at 27-2 on the season as head coach Darin Bazzell marked his 100th win on Saturday.
PC defeated Iroquois West at Gilman Friday evening 59-29 while having their full squad for only the third time this season as both Drew Haberkorn and Levi Goad saw playing time. Haberkorn had 8 points in 6 minutes.
“It was great to see the senior star back on the court,” said Coach Bazzell.
Tyler Curl led the Hawks over IW with 17 points. Dylan Bazzell had 11 points while Drew Fehr had 8.
The Hawks traveled to Plano for a non-conference game Saturday afternoon and defeated the Reapers 64-40. Defense was the big story in that one, which forced multiple turnovers throughout the game. Bazzell had 22 points, Tyler Curl had 17, Camden Palmore 6 and Drew Fehr, Gage Steidinger and Austin Hansen each had 4.
The win over Plano also marked Darin Bazzell’s 100th win on his birthday week. He told Fairbury News following the game that he is proud of how the boys persevered through the injuries this season.
“I think our team is pretty excited right now for each other and it shows.”
Coach Bazzell is proud of the way his team plays defense, something he says is preached and the kids buy into it.
“If we can do that, we are going to be pretty tough to beat even on bad shooting nights,” added Bazzell.
The last regular game of the season is set for Thursday at Tri-Valley before regionals begin the following week at Prairie Central High School.
The Hawks are scheduled to play the 6 p.m. regional game on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. as a number one seed against the winner of GCMS vs. Clifton Central game on Saturday.
