Bazzell 'can't be more excited'

Prairie Central basketball standout Trey Bazzell committed this week to play basketball at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.

“I can’t be more excited,” Bazzell said. “It’s a great day for me and something I’ve really been looking forward to.”

Bazzell is happy he will be close to home at IWU starting in in the fall and hopes several family members and Prairie Central fans can make the trip down to Bloomington-Normal to watch him play. The future Titan said he is grateful for the opportunity as IWU is known for its academics and he plans to enter the business school.

“It was a great fit.”

The strong Titan basketball program was ranked in the top 10 of a preseason poll this year. The small school has plenty of community backing – something Bazzell can relate to from his years playing at Prairie Central.

“The CCIW as a whole is the best D-III conference in basketball. It’s like the Big 10 of Division III,” said Bazzell’s father and Prairie Central head coach Darin Bazzell.

Dad is rooting for a long injury-free career for Trey at Wesleyan, knowing that his son will establish some good relationships there.

When it comes to this year, Trey just hopes he can finish out his high school career by playing in a Hawk uniform again at some point.

Coach Bazzell has been telling his players to remain positive, stay in shape and keep working on skills with the hope they can play.

“With news of the vaccine coming out here, that gives us a little bit of a boost I hope,” Darin noted.
