The Prairie Central School District is expected to use information from the results of Tuesday’s failed referendum question to reassess the situation.
“The board will have discussions over the next several months to determine whether they will stick with the current plan, tweak it or set a new course,” said PC Superintendent Paula Crane on Wednesday morning.
Crane notes the failed referendum does not eliminate the need for repairs and improvements in the district. She said they will continue to plan for some of the work, starting with the 5th through 12th grade buildings as decisions are made on the next steps.
Crane feels the board will make thoughtful decisions to keep the district on a successful path.
“We are thankful for the high number of voters that came to the polls to share their opinions and will continue to gather information from our communities to guide our decisions for our future.”
Prairie Central had sought to issue $45,000,000 in school building bonds to build and equip a new elementary school building. This also included repairs and site improvements to the high school, junior high and upper elementary.
According to information posted online from the Livingston County Clerk’s Office, Tuesday’s election in Livingston County had a 76.2 percent voter turnout with all 47 precincts reporting. Ballots cast were 16641 out of 21847 total voters.
At the polling places, 11210 ballots were cast and for early voting 3417 were cast. Vote by mail ballots totaled 2014.
