Owen Moser of Fairbury likely walked away from Thursday night’s Prairie Central FFA Hog Roast and Auction with a smile on his face.
Moser was the winner of the restored 1944 Farmall H tractor raffle during the annual event at Prairie Central High School.
PCHS ag teacher and FFA advisor Kyle Miller was very pleased with the turnout for this year’s auction. Morning preparations started out with snowflakes flying but they got through it and had a successful event. Many volunteers helped prepare the meat outside cooking, watching roasters or cutting meat.
“There were probably 20 to 25 people out there helping out at any given point,” said Miller.
PC FFA President Hannah Miller said the chapter has had a busy year that has gone well with plenty of success at nationals yet again.
“We’ve had a lot of CDE teams competing and preparing for later spring contests as well as state degrees,” she noted.
At the start of the auction, a moment of silence was observed for the late auctioneer, Walt Edelman who was instrumental in the success of the FFA auction over the past 39 years, making sure things ran smoothly and that everything was needed to clerk efficiently.
The local FFA uses its financial support for national contests, state contests, judging team preparation, leadership development, tractor restoration, ag program supplies and community service/chapter activities.
